who is an independant design? Someone who runs their own business?
I have just completed some work for a drinks company, just their standard desktop which will be rolled out across europe and south africa. I originally done it as a favor. But they said they would pay me.
how ever...they said id have to set up my own company etc etc...Just wondering if any of you guys have done the same thing? And have any suggestions about what to call myself? etc etc

It also doesn't need air because it just sits at the bottom of the water filled bucket and floats/crawls around.

Plug the external drive into your MacBook Pro, and open a finder window. The WD drive should show up in the left part of the finder window, under devices.
Right-click on the drive, and click on "Get Info".
In the Info window, part way down you'll see the format. For example:
Format: MS-DOS (FAT32)
or
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
or
something else for NTFS...
Remember, you can't reformat a drive (or a partition) without losing the files currently on that drive (partition). So, you MUST copy the files somewhere else, first.
I have checked and it is NTFS format. There is too much memory to copy onto my mac before reformatting. So then where else can i copy them too? For safety I can copy to another external hard drive which is NTFS, but will i then be able to move the data on to the newly formatted drive? Or just the stuff from my mac? Thanks so much for your help again

they have this service in the UK too but I can't for the life of me remember the number
it's free if they don't recognise the song but 50p if they do identify it
any single part of the song it works with, it's scary
I think it was developed by some professor in Australia - I remember listening to Chris Tarrant's Capital FM breakfast show about 2-3 years ago and he had this website that you could play a song into or even hum/whistle into... obviously someone realised the money making potential!

Sorry for jumping in, but...
I'm also new to all this kind of thing and have no knowledge of home networking at all really!
I currently have a MBP 15" i7 and a DP PowerMac G5 (that I'm still using as my desktop), my son will soon be getting a Mac Mini and I'm (slowly) saving money for a Mac Pro!
My questions are... Could I still use the G5 as some kind of server for the rest of the macs in the house, what would I need to install and what benefits would I get from doing this?
Sorry it's such a broad question, but I think it'd be a shame to stop using the G5 as I still feel it's a great machine.

The thing is- when are people going to realize what absolute liars these guys are?
I can only assume that the reason they haven't is because they tell people what they want to hear, even if it's not true.

Ahh, yeah, that sucks. Hopefully the JB comes sooner than later. I've almost been considering an iPad, but I'm just not sure I'd make enough use of it to warrant the price.
Edit: Killer! Thanks lavirshevo! They look great! They look even better in my multitasking bar! :)
Thanks to Hackint0sh814 as well! Loving the new rotation lock switch on my iPhone.

Apple's MobileMe Gallery (http://appshopper.com/photography/mobileme-gallery) application has received a minor update today, fixing a few bugs while delivering new support for iPhone 4. With the update, the application can now download higher-resolution versions of images hosted on MobileMe when used on an iPhone 4 and connecting over Wi-Fi. The change allows users to take advantage of iPhone 4's 960 x 640 "Retina" display to view images in crisper detail.
Unfortunately, the update does not yet bring native iPad compatibility to the application, a feature which would seem to be a logical addition to allow users to browse their MobileMe image galleries on the device's larger screen.

Not going to lie - this may make me actually use that portion of mobile me. It has been dormant in my account for the last year+

I have this in both my Mac Mini and MacBook Pro - Good deal, works great.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231294
Only problem (and one i just found out) is that since i live in Alaska, newegg wants to charge me 20 dollars shipping for anything i buy. Maybe I can find that on amazon.

I have a game plan.
The KoP Apple Store is closest to my work- so when I get out tomorrow (hopefully before 3 PM, the earliest I can kick out is like 1:30 I think) I am going to check these forums and see how the lines are looking from people that are posting. If KoP is totally swamped and Ardmore is looking more promising, I'll head down that way.
If both stores are getting slammed, I'll drive back home to Exton and hit up the Target and Walmart... if those two fail I'll head to the Best Buy in Downingtown instead.
If all fails I'll try to order online. So from me, showing up at Ardmore is a maybe ;P

It's impossible to do with the Native software. You could install rEFIt (http://refit.sourceforge.net/doc/)though and do this. It's an advanced task though.

So when are you planning on doing this? Don't see anywhere in the top 100 :p
and my G5 gets a bit of a rest instead of folding 24/7. It uses a lot of power and am trying to cut down my electric bill.
If i told you then it would not be a secret. I lost another work unit to the beta client.....however i still am getting decent daily output. I will tell you when i am in the top 100......o and by the way i am not folding under trainguy77.....You may already know what i am folding under but if you don't.....I will tell you when i am about to overtake you. :D
EDIT: by the way I may be a couple thousands points behind you so it will just be a long steady haul.

I just unpacked my 20" iMac last night after work and all I can say is, "OMG, it's big!" You don't really notice it in the store next to all the open space and the other computers, but it's definitely bigger than I expected. But it's SO awesome! Before I even plugged it in, I stuck an extra 1GB of RAM in it and then transferred all my files over from my PowerBook. That's SO slick.
Then I went through all the system updates and played around with some Photoshop and InDesign files and they opened nice and quick and looked gorgeous on the screen.
I also bought an iLugger bag since I'll be using it for DJing on occasion with tomorrow being the first time. I know it's a bit big for that but I wanted to upgrade from my PowerBook and didn't see the need to get a new one until the next major revision. The iMac will tide me over just fine.
It's hard to go back to my now little PowerBook's 15" screen after gazing at the vast amount of real estate on the iMac. Definitely a sweet upgrade.
